Describe NEW Ideas here (11/8/04):
Start Real Cooperative Connections
- Start internships between the student co-ops and worker co-ops/collectives. Nabolom's desire for building that connection has inspired me to search out these connections. -Venus Revealed!
Here are the Old [ Ideas ] here:
outreach..
- Start making contact with other collectives with similar or related purposes to see how we can work together or if they're far away, do exchanges or something. - Thomas
- Make a "disorientation" zine similar to that of the Long Haul that they've been making for something like 20 years. We can include community centers and cool places to go and do, plus direct action info, plus dirt on the University showing it's defense research plus pushing of genetic modification research. It should include art, stories and submissions of BC members and the anarchy reading group. It should be this wave of creativity, passion and life that IS the BC. Yeah. And then we'll do like the Long Haul and distribute to all the dorm rooms by sliding under their doors and coops. -V.
- Put together a zine with information from the Free Skool and DIY festivals. --Jonathan
- The places we look for people should be places with like-minded people who have similar goals to the Barrington Collective work.
- Out reach should include on campus (dorms, student groups), Craigslist, and if motivated enough - local free mags and newspapers.
- Get a space at Calapalooza (and if we can't get a space, take a space)- Stevie
activities
- Barrington Collective sponsors a saturday Food Not Bombs or helps spearhead another day. And has an info. table at the Farmer's Market. - Stevie, Tim, V and Thomas
- Remember to take advantage of grant money for individual events (I'm not talking about getting a sponsorship or anything like that; I'm just saying that we should take advantage of available resources because we can)- Stevie
- Make an interactive map of cool places in the East-Bay including co-ops, etc. with links to contact info, websites, etc.- Baker
- Re-initiate the BC weekly work-party... maybe combine it with a weekly potluck? - Thomas
- Make the DIY Fest also into a dis-orientation (for all incoming Cal Students especially).- Thomas
- Take over the scoop, or make submissions to the Berkeley Mic that wanted to and includes lots of info on George Proper, keeping with the good ol' Barrington Hall tradition. He wastes tons of money. I mean, if it wasn't for him, we'd all be living for a lot cheaper! We pay him to do nothing! -V.
- Make a history of Barrington Hall from house minutes, etc. and link the information to our webpage. - Thomas, Jason (from Critical Mass, etc.)
- Give such classes such as dance, learning to garden, zine 101, bike repair and free medical care info., vegan nutrition.
