Different ways to get special characters:

Copy and Paste

You can copy and paste special characters from below. Note: Some browsers may not correctly render these characters ever, even if they are put in exactly right. Especially Mac Internet Explorer. Of any version. It sucks. Use Safari. Or Mozilla. <pre>

Or, if you prefer to have a more convenient interface:

Win 95/98/ME/2000

You can also use Alt Key Codes or this other way.

Mac OS X

To turn on the "Character Palette" that lets you pick out all the funky umlauted and tilded whatnots:

  1. Open "System Preferences".
  2. Select "International".
  3. Click on the "Input Menu" tab.
  4. Check the box in the language list labeled "Character Palette".
  5. To the right of the regular menus (i.e. File, Edit, Go, etc), there is now a "character palette" icon that opens the palette. It lets you insert special characters with ease.
