At the Disorientation Meeting We: 1) Decided to become a member of Eco. We can be at Eco events, distribute at them, have a link on the website to our guide, more students will learn about it. Neat. There was some questions about if Eco was o.k. with the fact that we aren't completely environmental, Victor said that's o.k. 2) Decided to hold monthly meetings on one Thursday out of the month (until it nears time to publish again, when we will have more frequent meetings; we have to decide which Thursday when we get closer.) 3) We are in debt; Kiran needs to give me $25 for the overnight postage and $50 to Chris. Besides that we must raise $300 more, $150 for Chris and $150 for Marc who fronted $300 for 3000 additional copies. In order to do that the following locations will be contacted Marc: Missing Link, Good Vibes, Global Exchange Hunter: Cheeseboard Claire: Juice Bar, 924 Gilman Krista: Ashkenaz, Ecology Center. Marc will send the form letter to the list of the emails he sent. Businesses will be contacted by phone or in person as well, since personal contact works better. For Distribution: We need to get the co-ops. We split up duties, Mark will do Convent and Northside and the apartments, Chris and Claire will do the rest of the co-ops. We need to schedule a time to get the dorms; it's hard to get in so Chris will contact Hall Asses to see if we can distribute inside somehow. At a later date we'll discuss getting the frats and sororities (we can be missionaries!!, o.k. that's a personal comment, not something decided at the meeting). And... what else? Oh, yeah, there's some event coming up; might be good to distribute at events; keep maybe 500 copies for next semester as well. We aren't in a huge hurry to distribute, it's more important to get people to take them who will actually read them. It was suggested by two different people that maybe we should put the magazines in the Daily Cal dispensers but that idea was shot down cause we want to have good relations with them...
General BC Meeting: We had awesome new people which was exciting: Mike and Zoe!! Welcome, yeah! Present: Anders, Chris, Hunter, Mike, Zoe, (a guy whose name I've forgotten, oops, sorry), Kiran, Anthony.
The future meeting dates for your reference (info is in the notes below): DIY Festival Planning Meeting; Tuesday, September 21st at 8 pm; Cafe Med (La Med) next to Zebra Tattoo on Telegraph Spanish Nite, Potluck, and public art project ala "Don't Just Vote" *at the same time* at Claire's 6053 Chabot Road (directions in notes) Thursday September 23rd; 8-10 pm.
We decided to have bi-monthly meetings so that we can feel like a collective (the lack of meetings has made some of us feel a lack of togetherness); we talked about large projects vs. small projects and the importance of having those small projects as well so that people who don't identify with the large projects can stay active in the collective; we also talked about maintaining our co-operative connections; flyering the co-ops for the meetings, going to the co-ops during house meetings to tell them about who we are and how they can get involved and having some of our meetings in the co-ops instead of at Cafe Med. There was some debate about the last point. Some people said that they wouldn't have gotten involved if the meetings hadn't been in their house, some people said that the type of people that get involved aren't freaked out by Cafe Med... Chris mentioned to everyone the NASCO (North American Students of Cooperatives Organization www.nasco.coop) institute and how Chris and Claire are doing the workshop. Claire wanted everyone to know that she originally planned on doing the Twisted Sister workshop and the BC and TS were combined and that she hadn't wanted to just come back after not being here for almost a year and take over the workshop or anything like that; it was that Stevie at NASCO thought that they should be combined... Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that. We decided to plan another DIY festival and to make an effort to contact lots of people about the meeting so that if they want to help plan it that they can. This includes flyering in the co-ops going to meetings. Anders and Claire volunteered to flyer the co-ops and other locations, Claire is going to go to some co-op meetings. The DIY planning meeting will be on Tuesday at 8, Cafe Mediterranean (La Med) on Telegraph (next to Zebra Tattoo) and by People's Park. Mike presented the idea of doing an art project for "Don't Just Vote". This will be discussed at Spanish Nite where we'll have a pot luck, talk in Spanish and try to communicate about the art project in Spanish (yeah!). It will be on Thursday September 23rd at Claire's current and almost former residence: 6053 Chabot Road. This is off of College Ave in the gentrified area of town. Be forewarned that the house is a dump but has lots of common space. You get to it off of College going North on College, make a left. It will be the fourth house down on the left, it has a golden bicycle hanging from a tree. This Thursday (the 16th) is Chris's Birthday and the 29th is Claire's. Andy (from Loth) is also having a birthday somewhere in the middle and so we're thinking to maybe have a party on a weekend at Albany Bulb. Information will be sent out when this is set.
