#[Publications] - Disorientation Manual, DIY Zine
Anders: $200 from USCA for for things like buying toner, not sure and the photocopies are really slow, so it's not good buy a toner.. The little copy machien can be used for fliers.
kiran: we should think of buying paper too at the same time. anders: We can also look into buying newsprint.. if we have so much cash, we can go to a print shop.
Charlie: What do you think about using long 8x11, full sized can automatically be stapled. and saving a lot of labor.
Chris: i have hookups with copy places... long haul has promised $200-300.. berkeley mic has roughly $300 maybe.
iran: slingshot used to do the disorienteations.. we can possibly to use slingshot's printer...
chris: all these old diresotinations are sling shot produced.
Anders: I really like the idea of doing a separate DIY publication. the idea of doing something else is really appealing to me. who here has time?
Chris: Victor and ... started berkely watch.. they watch how corporate funding gets spent at berkeley. they hope to connect that to cuts in some programs, like ethnic studies, peace and conflict studies.. they are doing some really cool stuff. i don't know how much they know... we should move the discussion to what disorientation should be.
Anthony: say sOUOOOOOWOWWCH...
Kevin: What is the disorientation?
Charlie: It's a description of a reality behind the university, the unviersity gigves the propaganda about htemselves to the new school coming.. they don't tell the whole story. s o we tell things like where the fudning goes, nuclear weapons, etc.. it also tries to connect new students with existing organizations.
anders: it also has a history of berkeley.. you can come to berkeley and you think it;'s one thing and you become completely disappointed. hopefully it would idspell rumors and be something interesting.
kiran: we don't have many copies for cal day ccoming up, but it would be cool to dress up normal, and not have a stand but say "hey , this is a phamplet about the univesrity written by studnets." cal day is april 16th or theresome... maybe we can print out a couple hundred and pass it out cuz there about a couple hundred freshman...
chris: cal day is the day that prospective students come and check out what's here.
John: hey, you can use this to potentially manipulate certain students to come to berkeley.
Kevin: There should be a idgest version of this thing.
anders: i thikn the history is cool.
John: I will bottomline making a pdf of the disorientation... and have it done this evening.
Chris; some of you may know Marc Degeer, (Cram) Berkelye mic really wants to work with us on disorientation ... but they want to get other student groups involved.. i think it's a cool idea.. but it requires A LOT OF WORK.. so marc compiled a list to connect to other student groups... we have their email address of contacts.. wed on't have to do this now, but i think this would be a good direction to go, namely contacting these gorups as early possible. kiran: 8 x 11 is a good idea. I think students for a sensible drug policy, and queer/gender people to write up stuff would be cool. I would be totally willing to go the meetings and show the disorientation zine, and then ask them to read it and ask them to emial us if/when they think it's cool.
Kevin: At calso they told us to go to all the student groups.. i think that is a great idea.. 'cuz that is a great to get other community oriented people involved.
Anthony: I think those student groups are a good contact.. johnathan pilch is with berkely worms... giltract.. he wrote upt he thing about navartas.. ignacio chapela.. and that kind of stuff can be written by people. there are active mebmers of the berkeley community that can say a lot more substantial things about it than we lowly student can.
Anthony: One thing jesse said is that THE HISTORY NEEDS TO BE UPDATED.. NOTHING FROM '93 ON.
Kiran: I think it would be a good idea to organize a disorientation meeting.
Charlie: i remember the last time we did a disorientation meeting, and we split it off as s seperate subgroup. and it kind of made it hard on the few people doing it. whereas the big things like diy were taken on by a lot of people...
Anders: I'm not sure if I am interesting in going a meeting.
Chris: I think some people are intimidated by going to a "BC" meeting, but a disoreintation meeting mgiht be a good idea.
Kiran: I think when we did this DIY thing, we had specific DIY meetings, and we still had a good core group of people. if we had them every wekk or every 9other week.. we can publicize it at the meeting... it would still be a BC thing, cuz obiosly anybody helping would help.
John: Would a work day be helpful?
Anthony: It is half/half talk/working. We also had parts where johathan and I just went into our respective caves.
DISORIENTATION MEETING: 2 mondays from now, March 29th at 8:30pm here at Cafe Mediteranneum.
John: Bottomline: PDFing the existing pagemaker file.

#[Future Actions]
- 1.PLANTING:
Kiran: Plant shit everywhere - wildflowers, foods, etc. How do we get lots of seeds for cheap? The seed bank? Anyone up for midnight planting?
Anders: I have a couple of tomato plants. It might be better to sprout plants first, then plant them. Wildflowers would be easier....
Kiran: I want to post large posters in lots of places. I need a key, and it will be neat... you interested?
Chris: Walked by the bus stops by Eschelmann recently? Some really cool shit was done to them... Some altered homeland security ads.
Chris: I want to turn vacant spaces in the area to useful things.
Anders: Play with Surveilence. Map all the cameras, do skit performances in front of them. Started in NYC, starting in SF now.
Marc: Beehive wants to start stuff in the Bay Area. Possibly stencils? We'll be working on them this week.
Chris: Good fundraiser, good way to network.
#[Radio]
Anders: It's 104.9.
Micah: Maybe we don't want to.
Ian: Is this just gonna be playlists? What about shows?
Anders: We will, it's growing.
Chaz: We can make parts of it locked (techie talk blah blah)
Micah: Techie techie talk talk
Chaz: network. techinical
Ian: Did you guys make that? It's amazing? talk about buying equipment.
Micah: We should teach people how to make radios.
Anders: I grew up in a shithole (Palmdale, CA = suburban wasteland). But some kids started a collective. We should build them a radio. talk about equipment. talk about music.
Anders: Spaz and CZ should have a meeting. Soon to be scheduled. talk talk.
