Barrington Collective General Membership Meeting

Minutes for Sunday, July 20th, 2003

We had three new people at the meeting that we welcomed: Annie, Tanya, and Leone. It was great to have them there...

Free Skool

  1. So it turns out we made $260 at the benefit show and we have $44 left from the bake sell.
  2. Free Skool- if anyone wants to send questions/comments about free skool: it was stated to send to discuss at http://barringtoncollective.org but that was before we had the freeskool at http://barringtoncollective.org -- so just send that there.

  3. Someone could help John moderate the freeskool list? This is because whenever someone NOT on the list sends an email it will be forwarded to the moderator who can accept it. John is the administrator, so he can add a moderator to help out with this.
  4. A food collective is having COBB classes this weekend at 16th and Center from 10-4pm. We could advertise this through Free Skool.
  5. Email list- if YOU WANT ONE YOU CAN HAVE ONE!!!! Just let John know at mailto:jingorozatzcasa-z.org.

Computer Stuff

John and Charlie have just outdone themselves with the awesome wiki website they've made. Now YOU can have a page on Barrington for your group or add stuff to the Barrington Collective history, update outdated links, let people know about events!

You can make new pages by creating a link by say typing the name of the link ~[ name of the link ] and then after saving the changes you'll see a ?name of the link and then you clink on the ? and it'll go to your page which you can edit.

Any changes to the site will be saved so if anyone tries to mess up the site then we can just put up the old stuff again. If there are any problems then we'll switch to password access.

Also, a word of advice: SAVE your work to your computer if you're working for a long time on something... That way you don't have to wait for John and Charlie to upload something but you can do it yourself (DIY!! hehehe).

Other Stuff

It was recommended to make connections while doing freeskool or setting up workshops by inviting people to teach their own classes and let them know what they can plug into if they want to.

There is a MEETING ON THURSDAY FROM 5:30 TO 6:30 FOR DIY PLANNING.

WRITER'S BLOC WILL BE SOON HAVING A WORDLUCK... JOIN IT ON THE BC PAGE IF INTERESTED IN THAT OR OTHER ACTIVITIES RELATED TO WRITING.

We also have new Spaces available at places such as the Humanist Hall (at 24th and Telegraph -- check it out at the FNB website). You can use the cook houses. It is a great place to make connections to people in the community interested in similar things. We should use community centers as much as possible.

Also, if you're getting TOO MANY EMAILS(?) you can switch to DIGEST MODE and you can just get summaries of the whole days emails...

More Stuff

The DIY Festival date will be changed due to overlap with the Oregon Zine Festival. The first choice is the 30th of August, 2nd the 6th of September, the third the 23rd of august... more on that soon...

Also, check to see if you still have your DIY contacts you sent to Alexis, cause she may not have them due to lack of access to her eudora account.

There was also suggested to have a swapmeet table at the DIY where people will bring free stuff to trade or give away... We could also collect food and clothing for shelters. Everyone should research shelters to give to those (D has a compilation of shelters we could give to that she'll check out)

John is going to bottom-line (or head-line) getting some self-defense workshop there.

There'll be some music we're thinking to get something more farmers market style- less noisy and more chill- such as readyville, reorchestra, clarendon hills. Kiran knows a pirate band. There's also Ali and folk and bluegrass... It was also suggested to have some spoken word!!

If YOU know of someone who may want to play, find out if they'd be interested and when we know the dates we can plug them in.

If YOU have IDEAS, or would like to have a table or would like to see something there, send an email to discuss at barringtoncollective.org.

Design for DIY in the park could be a circle facing inward with a stage... Also important to have a BC table.
