Barrington Collective General Membership Meeting
Minutes for Sunday, June 29th, 2003
Introductions...
DIY- Do It Yourself Summer Festival
Summertime would be a great time to do another DIY fest.
We thought it might be cool to do it at the end of the summer so we can have the Free Skool lead up to it. This means recruiting people who teach Free Skool classes to showcase their lessons etc. at Free Skool and to advertise with attendees.
We will also contact past DIY participants and maybe new collectives.who wants a little Lusty Lady???
Erin is working on getting permits etc. so we can hold it at the Berkeley Farmers Market. This would make it more accessible to the public. But we must consider kids being present and maybe be a little less punk rock. We should advertise at the Farmers Market in advance.
Tentative date- August 9.so we need to start planning.
Free Skool
We need to put more information on the web!!! Schedule, times, places, classes, etc.
What should the format be? I think we all agreed that it should not be so structured. Just let the teachers choose what they teach, where they teach, and when. Our job is only to make up a master schedule and get it out in advance.
Meeting for master schedule making. Tuesday, July 8th. Will be announced on the listserv.
Free Skool benefit concert will be Friday July 11, 8pm-1am. Lindsay is going to make a motion tomorrow night at Cloyne council to host it there.
Photo Group
Erika (me) wants to start a photo group. I was thinking we would just meet once a week on say a Tuesday or Thursday night to print in Cloyne's darkroom. I am workjng on getting access etc. Join me if you want to do some printing or want to learn how. I will post on the announce list when this will happen.
Recruitment
Not everyone is in with the in crowd. Are we too exclusive? Am I babbling? How can we make the Barrington Collective more open to new members?
We thought it would be a good idea to go to house councils to tell people what we are all about. Maybe even just our own house councils.speak up dammit! We could even pass around a sign up list for people who want to organize (discuss at barringtoncollective) or just hear about events (announce at barringtoncollective).
A big introductory meeting in fall.
Also the website is a good means of getting this across, say that we always want new people.
Phone List
Thomas wants us to get a complete BC phone list, so he can harass us not only by email but late at night with his threatining calls. Can I block BC with the new anti-telemarketer law?
Website
Utilize it!!!
Maybe we should add a history section on what we do. Staged pictures of us having fun.b ecause that's the only way we get them.
What Now
Well for now I am going to do a little light reading, watch some TV, and go to bed. Oh, you mean for the Barrington Collective?
If anyone has any new ideas we can update the mission statement.
BC is a great way to organize the co-ops but recruitment is going to be a big thing that needs to happen.
Inspirational Prayer by Mike (end of meeting)
