(No rich-text format, how awful!! At some point, you'll be happy to know, this was all nicely formatted.)
Minutes: A slim group of 5 invaded Chateau this past Sunday at 8:30. Heres what we discussed:
DIY Festival: Meetings to plan the DIY Festival are being held. The next one is this Wednesday at 8:30 at Fenwick Apt. 17. The actual festival will be held Sunday, December 8th at CZ from 1PM to 5PM. Bands, a skill share, a craft swap meet, information on re-use, food from Food Not Bombs, the films Instrument and DIY or Die will all be a part of the festival. People from the Gilman Collective might also show up to share their skills. All Barrington Collective members should help clean-up, set-up, advertise and/or recruit people to share their knowledge. Start talking to people who might be interested in participating now.
Web Page: John and Charlie are FUCKING AMAZING!!! Stevie and Thomas met with them on Saturday to discuss the format of the webpage. It will include calendar events, subgroup links, e-mail exchange, chat rooms, an alumni section, whatever else we can think of. The domain name is Barringtoncollective.org. This domain name costs $25 per year which we hope to collect in donations at events. Tell Charlie and John your ideas for the webpage, Im sure they can do almost anything you want.
Outreach, Flyering, Announcements: We need more outreach to the co-op community about our events and about general involvement in the Barrington Collective. Stevie and Thomas recently visited Kingman and Cloyne to talk about the DIY Festival, the Anarchy Reading Group and to recruit more people to join the Barrington Collective both as core, active members and as people who can help with set-up/clean-up for events, flyering, providing resources, etc. We need at least one key person at every house to inform her/his house about events, flyer, etc. We can share flyers via the web, email or the USCA house run. A list of council times is being compiled so we can visit the houses and advertise in person. Talk to your own house council and if you are interested in talking to other houses councils, send out an email or show up at the next Sunday meeting.
Discussion Group: The last discussion group at Davis, despite an attendance of about 7, went very well. We began talking about how college has changed us and ended up discussing our future dreams of setting up cooperatively run, sustainable communities. Much blood, sweat and tears were shed. The next discussion group will take place on Monday, November 18 at Chateau (although I think the location will be changed soon). The topic: relationships and different levels of closeness in your life. Await further information.
Council List: Krista (thats me!!!) is putting together a list of when (day and time) all USCA house councils take place so we can go to them and announce our events. If you live in a USCA house, email me with the day and time of your houses council at kgasper@uclink.berkeley.edu.
Thesis Lecture Series: Matt still wants to put on a student thesis lecture night before he leaves for South America in a month. If you are interested (or know anyone else who would be interested) in presenting your thesis research or any other interesting research you have done to your peers, contact Matt Gleeson at mgleeson23@yahoo.com. Anyone interested in picking up the thesis lecture series for next semester? We thought it would be great to hold one event per month featuring two research presentations.
Santa Cruz Synergy Party: Becky wants to organize a synergy party with some kids from the Santa Cruz co-ops, possibly at the 40th St. Warehouse. Speakers would talk about stuff (I did not write down topics and do not remember, so stuff will have to suffice) for 5 minutes each and would then all participate with the audience in a quesiton and answer period. (This bit of information is lacking in so many ways. Oh well )
Anarchist Reading Group: Every Thursday night at Chateau, a discussion group will meet to discuss anarchist texts. The readings will be given out the previous week. The first group meeting will take place this Thursday at 7:30.
- Bring your friends.
Laying a Foundation for the Barrington Collective: We discussed the purpose and format of our bi-monthly Sunday night meetings. We want to streamline them so most work takes place in subgroups. Stevie suggested that teach-ins about group dynamics, how collectives run, etc. should be included in our meetings to give us a better grasp on how to ensure the continuity of this collective. Putting on events at the very beginning of next semester is also key to keeping the collective going. Dont forget about it over the winter break!!
Next meeting: Sunday, November 24 somewhere (we forgot to set the place I think we should do it at Chateau again.)
Now I must go run around in circles for half an hour. Happily yours Krista Thats it stop reading now.
